True, she had a lot of rust. OK, I could see the road under my feet as I drove along. However, we fixed that by welding a steel plate to the floor. Shame I didn't fix the roof first. It rained that night. I opened the door, took off the square of tarp I left on the seat so I wouldn't get a wet bum, and swung my legs into a small 'in car pond'. Hmmm. Drilled holes in the steel plate so the water could drain away like before. Fixed, no problem! I loved that car. Everynight as I tucked the blanket around it's engine so it would be warm enough to start in the morning, I caressed the hood with pride (then went to wash the chips of rust off). Brought somewhat under duress from a 'not-quite step-brother' (he apparently needed the cash, while I obviously didn't need reliable transport. Grrr) She was a dream to drive. Only nearly lost it and rolled the thing once! (Once to many times for my passenger, who tried to get out and walk. Ha, we were five miles from anywhere, who was she trying to kid?). Not to heavy, so I could push her out of ditches all by myself. Never got bogged! And all that spare room in the back for storing stuff in. The noise was a bit of a problem. In fact, if someone hadn't found the exhaust pipe in the middle of the road, I would never have noticed it had dropped off. The radio worked but. The day I turned the key and nothing happened was one of the saddest days. Not for my Mother, who had sold Demon before I got home from work that night to a spare parts dealer. Some thing about "not in my front driveway." Parents. |
