Scroll messages - Happy Easter, Happy Birthday, A Girl Is Born,
Thank You, Congratulations, Get Well Soon.

Write up your message on the computer. Use the ordinary
'Blank Document' (doc.) option in Word or something similar.
Anything that can get you a flexible column will do.

First create a four column table. Highlight it, right click on
the highlighted area and pick Borders and Shading from the
drop down box. Here you can change the tables line width
and colour if you want to, then click OK. Next write your
message in the first column.

Happy Easter

Highlight the message and choose Format from the top toolbar.
From its drop down menu click Format.

Play with the fonts available in your Format > Font dialogue box.
In Word this will allow you to see the different fonts as you
change them, without having to keep going back and forth
highlighting and choosing a new one each time.

Also re-size your Font to the size required.

Happy Easter

Now play with the colours. Try and take into account the
colour of the paper you will be using.

Press enter after each letter so that it goes down
the column.

Next you have to get the letters into the middle of
the column. If you want your message in one continuous
line highlight the table and click the center icon on
the toolbar.

But if you want your letters staggered then you have
to go to the beginning of each letter and click the
space bar until you get the letter where you want it.
Add extra space at the top and bottom of the words.

to a letter) and then clicking Insert from the top toolbar.
From the drop down menu click Picture then choose from
Clip Art or go to where you keep your own pictures.
Click on the image you want and press OK.

Highlight and copy the four columns then paste them
below. Repeat if your message is short, or skip if your
message is long (check in preview to see if it goes over
to two pages, or keep an eye down the bottom for the
pages number.)

Cut them out.

Print them out then use the column lines to
cut the scrolls free.

Wool, coloured matchsticks, rubber stamp.

Cut your string/ribbon into bits long enough to wrap round
the scroll and make a bow on top. Take out the coloured
matchsticks and line them up in pairs ready to go.

Glue, curling and popstick aplecator.

Add decorations now - stamps, stickers etc.
Use small stickers as bigger ones may pop free
when rolled up.

Wrap the scroll round the end of a pen or other cylindrical
object to get the desired curl to the paper. You have to curl
the paper before putting on the matchstick ends or it will
be harder to do.

drying scroll ends.

Use a pop-stick to glue the matchsticks, one to
each end of the scroll. Beware - the matchstick dye
comes off so handle it as little as possible. Once attached
leave to dry for five or so minutes.

basket of scrolls.

Curl both ends inwards and tie up with the
fancy string etc. Place all your scrolls in a
basket and hop off to deliver them!
Hanging scroll.

You can also make a loop at one end and
hang the scroll as well. Just glue the two
ends of a bit of string etc on the back of
the top end of the scroll, straiten the roll out
a bit, let the glue dry and hang it up.
