I feel this deep in my head, not as a pain but as a presence. Sort of like if you have ever had a bad bruise, it hurts the same way - aching even when not being touched. Other times it feels like someone has their hand on the front part of my brain and is pushing down. Also noticeable when I lay down as a pressure at the back of my throat, nose and soft bit of the roof of my mouth. Occasionally this is all accompanied by a sensation of cold. There are no pain receptors in the brain itself, so these sensations are the brains only way of talking to us. When we do feel pain in the scull it's from blood vessels and nerves on the outer part of the brain being put under stress. When I first felt the pressure I used to tilt my head back and it would help ease it a little. I have since found on the internet that by doing this you allow cerebral fluid to drain more easily down the spine. This takes the pressure off your head. Try it some time! |
